- Brett Veach predicts a trade frenzy during the upcoming NFL Draft due to closely graded prospects.
- The Chiefs hold two first-round picks, 9th and 29th overall, and are considering various positions to target.
- Reuben Bain's past incident may impact his draft stock, but the Chiefs are still evaluating him as a potential pick.
Brett Veach’s latest comment about the upcoming NFL Draft in Pittsburgh is sure to excite the football fans in Kansas City. The general manager of the Chiefs cleverly revealed the position his team is going to target in the draft.
KC owns two draft picks in the first round. The 9th overall pick for finishing with a 6-11 record and acquired the 29th overall pick in the Trent McDuffie trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
Mel Kiper Jr., in his latest list, mocked Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson to the Chiefs. Meanwhile, his colleague, Matt Miller, sees the Chiefs improving the defensive side of the roster with the ninth pick.
Brett Veach appears to be aware of the chatter. Speaking with reporters on FaceTime, Veach hinted at his strategy, stirring up excitement online.
I think that the fans will be in for a treat next Thursday. I think the grades are going to be so close from some of these tackles and [defensive] ends and receivers, that a lot of these guys that are mocked high may go a little lower, and a lot of the guys getting mocked low may go higher, because I think they’re so close this year, it’s not this huge gap and big fall off.

#Chiefs GM Brett Veach, who has picks No. 9 and No. 29, said there probably will be a lot of trades in this draft because the grades across positions are so close and there aren’t 2–3 QBs or a Myles Garrett-type prospect.

The 2026 draft boasts some exciting prospects, but from Veach’s standpoint, no one player stands out the most. For that reason, he expects NFL teams to make trades.
With a draft like this, when you don’t have two or three franchise quarterbacks, or a Will Anderson (the Houston Texans), and Myles Garrett (the Cleveland Browns), it does lend itself to open up to a lot of fun and a lot of excitement… From a fan’s perspective, it should be a lot of fun next Thursday.

The 2026 NFL Draft is set to commence at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from April 23 to April 25.
Brett Veach shares his views about the Chiefs’ top draft target
Earlier mock drafts linked the Chiefs with Miami edge Reuben Bain. However, in light of the recent news about Bain, draft experts believe that Bain is at risk of slipping out of the top 10.

Back in 2024, Bain was involved in a car accident, which caused the death of a 22-year-old college student and left other passengers injured. Although the court did not file charges against Bain, athletes have fallen out of the first round for even lesser offenses.
When asked to discuss the report, Veach said that he may have been aware of its existence as early as last year.
We always get together and review top prospects at St. Joe before scouts leave… It’s our responsibility to do our diligence and vet each player… This is the most important part of our job, getting the player right.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chiefs hosted Bain on a Top 30 visit earlier this month and spent a lot of time with him.
