In Short
  • Dianna Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic amid controversy over leaked photos with NFL coach Mike Vrabel.
  • Claims suggest that a private investigator, allegedly hired by Russini's husband, was responsible for the photo leak.
  • Another reporter faced backlash and was dismissed from USA Today for criticizing Russini's resignation in an unprofessional manner.

Dianna Russini hoped that resigning from her post as lead NFL Insider for The Athletic would stop the rumor mill from continuing to discuss her ‘intimate’ moments with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Since the day the first set of photographs became a matter of public interest, the two have tried to make it clear that they were among a larger group of friends.

The photos shared with Page Six did not corroborate their justification, and that is where the situation started to go out of control.

Soon, another picture came to the fore, this time clearly showing that the two were the only ones at the bar. However, they were not ‘holding hands’ or ‘hugging.’

Nevertheless, it was enough to push The Athletic’s parent publication, the New York Times, to launch an investigation, and that is what prompted the mother of two to call it quits.

Throughout this time, a few questioned if this was the work of someone with a vendetta towards Mike Vrabel or Dianna Russini. Now, someone with sources believes it was the latter.

I talked to a source close to Dianna… They believes it was a Private Investigator that took the photos of Dianna and Vrabel, and they, the source, believes that without question, the PI was hired by Dianna’s husband.

Jared Stillman claimed on his show

Even though such claims could be taken with a grain of salt, he is not the first person to talk about this. But Jared Tillman claims his source confirmed that Kevin Goldschmidt, Russini’s husband, was behind this leak.

Dianna Russini’s husband not bothered about her money

Jared Tillman reiterated that Dianna Russini may not be officially agreeing with his source’s claims, but their belief indicates this had to do with something about her marriage.

The husband has a bunch of money, and this is not about money.

Jared Tillman said

Someone who works with Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo on SiriusXM might not want to be someone who wants to sensationalize something to get views. Therefore, there is a possibility that Tillman could be right about this being something to do with Kevin Goldschmidt and his relationship with his wife.

The podcaster pointed out that the Shake Shack executive has enough money. Therefore, if he and Russini proceed with a divorce, that would not be one of the reasons.

It is estimated that the 43-year-old NFL reporter earned in seven figures during her time with The Athletic. Those are not figures that would push Goldschmidt to possibly make these photos public.

However, there is also the factor that Page Six got its hands on those photos after they were shopped around to multiple celebrity gossip pages. If the likes of TMZ did not find it worth their time, then there might be something else to it.

Reporter loses her job after criticizing Dianna Russini’s actions

While Dianna Russini resigned from her job to step away from media scrutiny, another reporter has faced backlash over her criticism of the former NFL Insider.

I’m sure you were told to submit this or that you’d get fired instead. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. We know who you really are and what you’ve been up to for years. It does so much detriment to women in sports who have done things the right way.

Crissy Ford wrote on X

This was influencer and reporter Crissy Ford, who wrote this as a reply to Russini’s official resignation posted on X. The problem is that fans believed she was speaking on behalf of USA Today, for whom she works.

That prompted the publication to dismiss her from her job, as they felt her criticism of Dianna Russini was too personal and not professional enough.
