GT and CSK occupy the first and second spots on the points table. While it will be CSK’s record-extending 10 IPL finals, GT will be playing their second consecutive final.

In Qualifier 1, CSK defeated GT by 15 runs to secure themselves a final spot. The Hardik Pandya-led side, on the other hand, knocked out five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 62 runs to seal their berth in the summit clash.

However, as the city is witnessing seasonal rain, the Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and GT, which was played at the same venue was delayed. On Sunday evening, not just 61 percent of rain but a thunderstorm is also expected in Ahmedabad.

To declare the result, both teams have to play at least five overs each. If that happens, though the match can be delayed up to 12:26 AM IST, there is also a reserve day for the final. If due to the rain, all the 40 overs aren’t completed, then the match will resume from there, on the reserve day, which is on Monday (May 29). At the same time, if at least a five-over match is not possible on Sunday, then from the toss only, the final will start on the reserve day.

If rain turns spoilsport on Monday also, then again the same procedure will be followed, including a super over decider, the cut-off time being 1:20 am. If the same doesn’t take place due to the rain, then to the disadvantage of CSK, GT will be declared the winner based on their league-stage performances (GT are above CSK in the points table).
