IND vs AUS

Australia defeated India by nine runs in a thriller final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Sunday, August 7 at Edgbaston, Birmingham in UK.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener Alyssa Healy could do less today as Renuka Singh dismissed her with off lbw. Beth Mooney was the high-scorer for Australia as she slammed 61 off 41 balls from her blade including eight boundaries.

Aussia skipper Meg Lanning was the next high-scorer. He got bowled out quite interestingly by Radha Yadav’s spectacular fielding. Yadav flicked the ball back through her legs without looking and it tocuhed the stumps and so with big OUT on screen, Lanning walked back to the dressing room.

At the end, Australia reached a decent 161/8 in their alloted 20 overs.

India responded with Jemimah Rodrigues scoring 33 runs off 33 balls with four boundaries. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana could do less as they got out early.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was the high-scorer as she smashed seven fours and two sixes to score 65 runs off 43 balls. Ashleigh Gardener dismissed her with a flat ball. Kaur stepped across and tried to scoop but mistimed it and got a faint edge on her helmet. The ball lobbed to the right of the keeper who runs across and took it.

After Kaur’s dismissal, wickets fell like a pack of cards. But the match didn’t end before the penultimate over. Gardner’s death bowling helped the Aussies clinch a nine-wicket victory in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
