In what could be a huge blow to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) season, ace pacer Pat Cummins might not feature. This has been reported by the Australian media who have stated that Cummins has made his decision clear, but has not revealed the reason for the same. He is also likely to miss out on the tour of West Indies later this year.

In the first half of IPL 2021, Cummins‘ KKR did not have a particularly good season as they ended the first half of the season on seventh, winning just two of their first seven games. There were a plethora of issues plaguing the side such as concerns with the scoring rate, batting order as well as death bowling. The suspension of the IPL came at a good time for KKR as they their season seemed to be going nowhere at all.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, Pat Cummins is expected to sit out Australia’s tour of West Indies as well as the rest of IPL 2021. “David Warner and Pat Cummins could be rested from the West Indies tour because of family reasons – others could follow after a draining year in several bubbles – and Cummins, despite a multimillion-dollar IPL contract, has already said he will not return to the T20 tournament this season,” the report stated.

IPL 2021 is expected to resume in September after India’s tour of England and before the ICC T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in its Special General Meeting which was held yesterday that the tournament will be held in the window between September 17 and October 10. Details on participation of all the overseas players are awaited and it looks likely that the English players might miss out, after it was stated by Ashley Giles that international commitments were the priority.
