In Short
  • DeMarvion Overshown aims to prove he is one of the best linebackers in the league as he enters his third NFL season.
  • Overshown is fully healthy and has no restrictions after recovering from multiple injuries in previous seasons.
  • The Cowboys are counting on Overshown to strengthen their defense following the departure of Micah Parsons.

DeMarvion Overshown has missed 15 games during his first two years in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. Ahead of his third season, Overshown is hell-bent on proving that he’s the best linebacker in the league when healthy.

After attending the Cowboys’ voluntary workout, Overshown spoke with reporters and announced that his best days are ahead of him.

When I’m healthy, I’m one of the best linebackers in the league. That’s not to toot my own horn, but the film and the stats speak for itself.

With Micah Parsons no longer in the picture, the Cowboys will rely on Overshown to fill in the vacant spot beside Quinnen Williams, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Sam Williams, and Rashan Gary.

What happened to DeMarvion Overshown?

The Cowboys drafted Overshown 90th overall in the 2023 draft. He played 13 games, registered 90 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 pass deflections, one interception, one force fumble, and one fumble return. The University of Texas alum wasn’t available for the first half of the 2025 season as he continued his rehab. The Cowboys activated him before the Week 11 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. He had a solitary tackle for loss.

Overshown made six appearances last year but missed the final couple of games due to a concussion. He accumulated 28 total tackles. He’s remained healthy ever since and is aiming to hit the ground running during the OTAs.

The fact that I get to go through this whole offseason as a healthy man, and coming into training camp healthy, I feel like people ain’t seen my best yet. So, I know it’s going to be one of my best years.

Overshown will prove to be a valuable piece in the Cowboys’ defense

Jerry Jones made a franchise-altering trade prior to the start of last season when he accepted a trade offer from the Green Bay Packers for Parsons. Without the All-Pro pass rusher, the Cowboys struggled to generate sacks and contain the run. Dallas gave up a staggering 500+ points, finishing in the bottom half of nearly every metric possible.

After the season ended, Jones fired Matt Eberflus and hired Christian Parker as the new defensive coordinator. Parker comes from the Vic Fangio coaching tree, but is working to establish a separate identity.

This is our defense. I don’t want it to be called the Eagles defense or Vic [Fangio’s] defense. This is going to be ours.

Dallas used their first two picks in the draft on defensive players, Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and UCF pass rusher Malachi Lawrence. The Cowboys also selected Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham in the third round.

With Overshown back in the frame, Parker has several options to choose from and form his 3-4 defense.

DeMarvion Overshown hires Micah Parsons’ agent

2026 is going to be a “prove it” year for Overshown, because he will essentially be playing for a contract extension. Keeping that in mind, he hired the best agent in the business as his representative.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Overshown hired David Mulugheta, who also represents Parsons and Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens.
