For those who are unaware, prominent tennis player Emma Raducanu has been in the headline for quite a while now. She won her first Grand Slam, that is, the US Open last year. We didn’t agree on the terms and there were some red flags that just couldn’t be ignored. Our trial period was over at the US Open, but I stuck around, trying to see if there was going to be a way to impress the team. I really wanted to make it work,” he said.

But Tursunov also complemented his previous student. He praised her and acknowledged her talents.

First, she’s absolutely great, a hard worker, and doesn’t think or act like a superstar. She’s extremely talented, very athletic, and very coordinated. She is hungry to improve and is obsessed with tennis,” he said enthusiastically about Raducanu.

I loved working with her. It was a difficult decision to walk away. She’s minimum a one-year project, but I would say she’s a two-and-a-half-year project. It’s hard for people to understand because she already won the US Open,” he further added.

Tursunov also admitted that Raducanu needs to do more to improve her skills in the game.

But her game is very raw and in many ways it could use a lot of improvement. As I said to her and her team, you just need to have one voice. Try that. If it doesn’t work, you cross that off your list,” he acknowledged.

After parting his ways with Emma, Tursunov is busy training Belinda Bencic. He is a superstar tennis coach who previously had stints with Elena Vesnina and Aryna Sabalenka.

Emma Raducanu knows how to be in the limelight. Since she won the 2021 US Open, the world’s media is ready to catch any news that is even marginally related to her. She has become a global superstar and “Darling of Women’s tennis in the United Kingdom” in no time.

However, she has been in news this year for all the wrong reasons. From her dismal performances in the Grand Slams with all second-round exits from the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon to the recent drama that has been going on, Raducanu could not even advance into the second round at the US Open, losing to Alize Cornet in the first round of the tournament itself.

The British player struggled on all surfaces as her best performance came in the Korea Open, where she reached the semi-finals but was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko. She also had to forfeit her participation in the Billie Jean King Cup.

Her sad saga with her coaches continued this year too as she separated from her coach, Dmitry Tursunov. With that being said, it will be interesting to see how she performs in the next season. Probably with a new coach, she can improve her game to the level, which can help her with many WTA and Grand Slam titles in the coming year.
