Rory McIlroy is once again the Masters Tournament champion. The World No.2 claimed his 2nd successive win at the Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, finishing 1-shot ahead of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler. Donald Trump congratulated the golfer and sent a message to him.
The 36-year-old had a fierce start to his title defense. After an opening round score of 67, 1992 Masters winner Fred Couples made a joke regarding him and expressed that he may never lose this thing again.
On Friday, McIlroy went even lower than this and shot 65. Following his 7-under par performance in the second round, he opened up a 6-shot lead, the biggest lead in Masters Tournament history after 36 holes.
He did stumble a bit in the third round. With him carding a round of 73 and the other chasers making a huge move, things got interesting at the end of the day on Saturday. McIlroy remained on top despite his 1-over par score and entered the final round on Sunday, along with Cameron Young, as the final pairing.
The pressure was certainly there on the Northern Irish golfer. A birdie on the 3rd hole was followed by a double bogey on the 4th and a bogey on the 6th. He bounced back with successive birdies on holes 7 and 8.
On the back nine, he made two more successive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes. A skillful par on the 16th hole saw him enter the final two holes with 2-shot lead.

On the 18th hole, McIlroy did run into a bit of trouble. His tee shot hit a tree, while his second shot found the bunker. On his third shot, he would chip the ball on the greens and have himself two putts to win the tournament.
After missing his birdie putt, he had a tap-in from close range. After Young completed his round, McIlroy tapped in for a bogey and won the event for a second year running.

Donald Trump, who is a huge fan of golf, congratulated McIlroy on his win. On his Truth Social account, the U.S. President claimed that he was becoming more and more of a legend with each year.
Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another great championship, The Masters! He performed tremendously under pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing. With each year, Rory is becoming more and more of a LEGEND!

Trump had a message for McIlroy last year as well. After winning his maiden Masters title and completing the career grand slam, the reigning U.S. President spoke with the reporters on Air Force One. In this, he praised the golfer and called it an “amazing” win.
With the win on Sunday, McIlroy made more history. He became the 4th golfer after Jack Nicklaus (1965, 1966), Sir Nick Faldo (1989, 1990) and Tiger Woods (2001, 2002) to win back-to-back Masters Tournament titles.

This was McIlroy’s 6th major title. He is now one of the 15 golfers in history to win at least half a dozen major titles in their career.
Phil Mickelson sends heartfelt message to Rory McIlroy after remarkable triumph
Rory McIlroy further cemented his legacy on Sunday as he defended the Masters Tournament title. 3-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson later sent him a heartfelt message for his remarkable triumph.

Mickelson, the 6-time major champion, was not in the Masters Tournament this year due to some personal family health matter. The “Lefty“, however, was watching the event and shared some of his insights on X.
After McIlroy’s triumph, the veteran took to his X account and penned down a message for him. In his post, he congratulated the former World No.1 for his win.
Congrats to @McIlroyRory for an exciting @TheMasters win. Back to back is simply remarkable.

McIlroy joined Mickelson, Lee Trevino, and Sir Nick Faldo on 6 major championship wins with the victory on Sunday. He is now tied with these three in 7th place for the most major wins.
This brings an end to the 90th Masters Tournament. For now, McIlroy will celebrate wildly before gearing for his next event. Next year, he will be looking for an unprecedented three-peat of the green jacket.
