- Matthew Stafford signed a one-year, $55 million extension with the Los Angeles Rams.
- Emmanuel Acho believes Stafford can win one more Super Bowl, enhancing his legacy.
- The Rams face a tough schedule in 2026 but have strong roster support for a playoff run.
The Los Angeles Rams weren’t too sure whether quarterback Matthew Stafford would return for the 2026 season until they heard it from his own mouth while holding the league MVP trophy. With that out of the way, the next question that bugged everyone was how long he would continue to play for the Rams.
On Thursday, the Rams got their answer in the form of a one-year extension. Emmanuel Acho believes that Stafford, even at 38, is in a great position to play and win another Super Bowl. Acho said on Speakeasy:
[Matthew Stafford’s] got one more Super Bowl in him. And that Super Bowl is gonna change the legacy of Matthew Stafford, and I also think it’s gonna swing the pendulum of the NFC. Stafford has one more Super Bowl in him.
Stafford came very close to winning his second ring during the 2025 season. After wrapping the regular season with a 12-5 record, the Rams defeated the Carolina Panthers in the wild-card round, followed by a win over the Chicago Bears to secure a place in the NFC Championship game against rivals the Seattle Seahawks.
Stafford threw 22 completions for 374 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception. However, the Rams still lost 31-27. With Stafford secured for one more year, along with drafting his potential protégé, Ty Simpson, the Rams, in Acho’s perspective, have a great shot at winning their second Super Bowl in six years.
LA improved its defense by trading for Trent McDuffie, and Stafford has both Puka Nacua and Davante Adams to throw passes to in 2026. Acho said:
Sean McVay [Rams head coach] and Matthew Stafford, they are on one accord. If Matthew Stafford wins this additional Super Bowl, imagine what that does for him. It moves him from outside of the top 10 quarterbacks of all time, right into the top 6 quarterbacks of all time.

Analyst gives a surprising prediction on how the Rams’ 2026 season will pan out, even with Matthew Stafford as quarterback
The Rams boast one of the better rosters in the NFC, but that doesn’t guarantee a great season. Several factors tie into a team registering a winning season.

One of the factors is the strength of the regular-season schedule, which was released last week, and it’s not looking sunny for the Rams. They have drawn the 13th-toughest schedule and will play teams with an average winning percentage of .516 (they will face 9 teams that played postseason football in 2025).
Moreover, the Rams travel to Melbourne, Australia, to play the San Francisco 49ers on a Wednesday, and they play against the Seattle Seahawks on Christmas Day, which is on a Friday.

Ali Bhanpuri of NFL.com believes that if the Rams can overcome these challenges, then they have a great shot at a deep playoff run. Bhanpuri wrote:
If there’s any team equipped to overcome such a challenging slate, it’s Sean McVay’s club. Time will tell whether a little more immediate help would have made the difference in them securing that priceless hardware.
According to Sports Illustrated’s simulator, the Rams have the best odds to win the Super Bowl in February 2027, in their own backyard, the SoFi Stadium.
