Scuderia Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc has backed his team, saying the outfit will be pretty close to championship leader Red Bull during the Spanish GP. Ferrari suffered an unfortunate double DNF during the Montreal event despite being on an impressive run this season.

Red Bull returned to winning ways in last week after an underwhelming result in Monaco. Max Verstappen‘s win in the Canadian GP has put the Milton-Keynes outfit 49 points ahead of second-placed Ferrari, who scored none at the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit.

However, Charles Leclerc has shown faith in his team ahead of the Spanish GP, with the Monegasque driver confident of the SF-24’s ability around the high-downforce, fast-paced Barcelona circuit. Leclerc won spectacularly in Monte Carlo this year and has been extremely influential for the Maranello-based team.

I feel like the strength of Red Bull will be more visible on a track like Barcelona. But let's wait and see. And behind [Red Bull] I think we'll all be pretty close.

Ferrari and McLaren have shown tremendous improvement in their performances this season, with both teams being seen as proper constructors’ championship contenders. But in their way stand Red Bull and the brilliance of Max Verstappen, who has already managed to win six out of nine races this campaign.

Ex-F1 driver repents on Carlos Sainz being made to leave Ferrari

Former F1 driver, Gerhard Berger has bemoaned the situation of Carlos Sainz, who is set to leave Ferrari at the end of the season. The latter is going to be replaced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, as was announced in a shocking turn of events at the start of this season.

Very sad. I feel a bit sorry for him because he is almost equal to Leclerc. But Ferrari has chosen Hamilton, who should provide new dynamism. In the wake of Lewis, one or two important technical people are definitely coming along, and Ferrari need them.
Gerhard Berger told Bild

Carlos Sainz has been a consistent performer for the Maranello-based team but was forced to make way for veteran driver Lewis Hamilton in hopes of new dynamism for the team. Berger asserted that the departure of Sainz in place of his teammate Charles Leclerc is an unlucky change of cards for the talented Spaniard, as he claims both teammates share the same caliber and potential.

Since the announcement of this news, Sainz has reportedly been contacted by various teams across the grid, such as Williams Racing and Audi, who are keen to have the three-time race winner on board. But no word has yet been received from the Spaniard as the 29-year-old continues to weigh his options ahead of the 2025 season.
