Lando Norris emerged as a real contender for the F1 world title against Max Verstappen last year. The Briton had to wait half a decade due to McLaren’s struggle to get back to the front. Though, Norris seems to be determined to stay at Woking.

The 25-year-old was promoted to McLaren’s F1 team in 2019 alongside Carlos Sainz. Lando Norris showcased his talent from the get-go. He became the team’s main future prospect after Sainz decided to move to Ferrari in 2021.

Norris has dominated McLaren since, even triggering the downfall of Daniel Ricciardo. It is thus no surprise that the British driver has been on the radar of top teams in the past. However, Lando Norris’ desire to potentially flirt with such offers in the future remain unclear.

Lando Norris has invested his heart and soul in McLaren

When Lando Norris joined McLaren in 2019, the team was a shadow of its former glory after having ended its disastrous deal with Honda two years prior. Zak Brown had just started to bring in changes which were set to bring things back on track in the long term.

Since then, Norris has been an integral pillar of the British squad. Brown has built the team with the 25-year-old as a constant force. So much so, that Lando Norris even turned down offers from Red Bull to partner Max Verstappen in the past. This was seen as a bold move a couple of years ago. Though, after McLaren won the constructors’ title in 2024, no one can really bat an eyelid on his decision.

For Lando Norris, McLaren is no longer just a team, rather he has more of an emotional connection with Woking. This might become a problem for the Briton if the team falls behind rivals in the future. However, for now, things seem to be in the perfect place for this partnership.

Nevertheless, Formula 1 is a brutal sport. If Norris realizes that he can no longer fight for the title with McLaren, he could potentially switch to a rival team. Afterall, Lewis Hamilton did not hesitate from leaving Mercedes despite having achieved historic success with the Silver Arrows in the past decade. As such, fans should not be surprised if the 25-year-old finds himself in a similar situation to Hamilton in the coming years.
