Max Verstappen has raced for Red Bull Racing since 2016. The Dutch driver is often linked with rival teams over a potential switch. However, former F1 team boss Guenther Steiner has refuted any possibility of Verstappen following Lewis Hamilton in joining Ferrari.

The four-time world champion’s current contract with Red Bull extends till the end of 2028. Though, Steiner pointed out that in Formula 1, contracts can always be torn in light of a new opportunity. Albeit, it would be difficult to guess Max Verstappen‘s next destination.

The 59-year-old mentioned that McLaren was not looking to change its driver line-up of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Moreover, Guenther Steiner made it clear that Ferrari would not be willing for another ‘outlaw’ move like Lewis Hamilton for Max Verstappen. Though, the Dutch driver was recently rumored to receive a $1.2 billion offer from Aston Martin.

I think McLaren won’t change its drivers, and I’m pretty sure Ferrari won’t spend to have another outlaw like Lewis Hamilton’s.

What’s the next best alternative for Max Verstappen?

Steiner pointed out that Mercedes might become a serious option for Verstappen. The Silver Arrows have expressed interest in the Dutchman in the past. Moreover, the former F1 team boss highlighted that Max Verstappen could become a serious option for the team if Kimi Antonelli fails to match expectations this season.

It’s the biggest possibility. If Andrea Kimi Antonelli does not give up to what is expected, there could be an opportunity.

Guenther Steiner said

Max Verstappen has so far not given any hints on potentially leaving Red Bull. The reigning world champion will be focusing on the upcoming season. However, if Milton Keynes struggles to fight for race wins, Verstappen can potentially reconsider his future plans.
