“Personally speaking, it’s been a very positive year”: Alex Albon is happy with the way he has flourished in Williams in 2022
When it was announced that Williams will be bringing Alex Albon back to the racing grid as a replacement for George Russell who signed on to shift to Mercedes for the 2022 Formula 1 Championship, everyone viewed it as a lifeline being thrown for the British-Thai driver who had to sit out an entire season for the lack of seats at any prospective team. Now that his year one at the British team is over, Alex Albon decided to look back at the experience that he has gained and the results that he have earned during this time, and he believes it was his strongest season in F1 till now.
Alex Albon’s flourishing Formula 1 career took flight right at the moment when we was handed a Red Bull contract for becoming Max Verstappen’s new partner at the Austrian team in 2019 after the mid-year demotion of Pierre Gasly. Unfortunately for him, the executives at Red Bull were not quite impressed with his results, and decided to replace him with Sergio Perez after a difficult 2020 campaign where he was lagging far behind the performance of his teammate Max Verstappen. At that time, he could not sign a deal with any other team as all the seats were occupied, and hence he had to walk away from regular racing in F1 for a year.
Fast forward to 2022, Alex Albon snatched up the chance of joining Nicholas Latifi at Williams after the exit of George Russell from the team. Albon utilised all that he has learnt in the previous F1 seasons and also during his short stint racing in the DTM to get the best possible results with his car, and he outperformed his teammate in his debut year at Williams and came 19th overall.

Alex Albon highlights the points in his 2022 season when he was truly happy with his results
Williams’ racecar proved to be a trouble to the team as they were not fast enough to put up a good fight against their F1 rivals, but still Alex Albon managed to milk out a few points with three top-10 finishes in 2022. Speaking of how this season has been for him, he said, “I think it’s been a tricky one in some respects. I feel like personally speaking, it’s been a very positive year. I think it’s been my strongest year in F1. I haven’t done many years, but out of the three, it’s my strongest one. I feel like I’ve developed as a driver, which is really the main thing.“
In the upcoming year, Alex Albon will have to improve upon his performance at Williams under the new leadership as Jost Capito has walked out of his post as their Team Principal. Albon has a multi-year contract with the British squad, and his fans have their eyes peeled to see what the young driver achieves in the next season which propels of the executives at Williams to extend his tenure further.
