If there were an award for the most surprising performance in this year’s F1 season, it would surely go to Fernando Alonso. The two-time World Champion, shows no signs of slowing down as he aims for more achievements at the age of 41 in a sport where most racers retire by mid-30s. The Spaniard has already comfortably settled into the third spot in the World Championship table, surpassing all his heavyweight rivals like Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and the others.
At the recently-held Monaco Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso’s pace was noted to be second to only Max Verstappen, the reigning World Champion. The Spaniard, who is currently gearing up for his home race in Barcelona, delivered a massive display of brilliance at the Qualifiers for the Monaco Grand Prix, and was almost on his way to win pole. Later, Max Verstappen’s historic flying lap left Alonso behind, but still, he got his first front row start in Monaco since 2007.
Owing to Fernando Alonso’s consistent record of five podium wins in the six Grands Prix that have been held till now, his fans are hoping for the Asturian to bring home his 33rd race win. This would be his first victory in ten long years, and to wish him luck on his quest towards the elusive 33rd Grand Prix title, Spanish space organisation Fundación del Instituto de Astronomía y Astronáutica de Mallorca have renamed the asteroid “73533” as “Alonso 73533”.

Fernando Alonso is currently chasing his 33rd race win, and the Foundation of the Institute of Astronomy and Astronautics of Mallorca (FIAAM) has found the perfect way to wish the Spaniard luck on his journey. They have mentioned in their statement, “We believe we know how to help Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso achieve his 33rd World Cup victory. This asteroid has a peculiar number ending in “33”, the same number of victories that the Asturian pursues in his long career in the highest category of world motorsport.”
In other news, Fernando Alonso has recently made the headlines for a cheeky move that he made while receiving the prize for his P2 finish in Monaco. Since the weekend appeared to be a strong one for the Oviedo native, he decided to send a strong message by putting his left foot on the top step of the podium, indicating that the race win would be his very soon.
