Pedro de la Rosa, the ambassador of the Aston Martin F1 team, has admitted that he hopes to see Fernando Alonso crowned as an F1 World Championship one more time. Alonso has held the title twice in his career so far, and Pedro believes it would be a fitting end to his career if he could win the coveted Championship for the third time.
Fernando Alonso has gotten off to a brilliant start during the 2023 F1 season, and the morale is extremely high within the Aston Martin camp. Pedro de la Rosa, who joined the team this year, while talking about Alonso, said, “There are many World Champions who lose their edge when they no longer have a competitive car. Fernando is not like that. He’s maintained his level and his motivation.”
“To have achieved as many F1 podiums as he has and to still have that same hunger as when he first started, despite not having a competitive car for so many years, is something I really admire about him. “It would be a dream come true to see Fernando crowned World Champion again. He deserves it. Anything you do in life, if you give your best, sooner or later you will be rewarded – and Fernando has given his best for decades.”
“When you consider the journey he’s been on, everything he’s put in, and everything he’s been through, winning the World Championship again would be a fitting finale to a remarkable F1 career.” The Aston Martin ambassador, on the one hand, has revealed his wish to see Alonso as an F1 Champion again, and on the other, has backed his wish by indicating how well the Spaniard has been able to perform since making his F1 return. Pedro de la rosa is on point in his assessment as since his comeback, Fernando Alonso has been nothing short of exceptional. Despite being 41 years old, he can still give young F1 drivers a run for their money.
Would Fernando Alonso be able to fight for the Championship in 2023?
While Fernando Alonso’s 2023 F1 campaign has gotten off to a brilliant start with the Aston Martin F1 team, he still has proved second best against the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. In the first two races of the season, Alonso has only been able to manage two P3 finishes behind the Austrian team’s prolific duo.
Moreover, the RB19 has been deemed by many in the F1 paddock as a rocket ship. The pace of the car has proved to be on another level in comparison to its rivals, and Aston Martin has still got a lot of work to do if they are to challenge for the World Championship this year. As things stand, Alonso has got 30 points to his name in the Drivers Championship, whereas Verstappen and Perez are on 44 and 43 points, respectively.
The 2023 F1 World Championship has started to take shape. If Aston Martin can also bring their car to the level of the Milton-Keynes-based team, then the ongoing campaign would turn out to be a sensational watch for everyone interested in the sport. Would Pedro de la rosa’s wish of seeing Alonso as an F1 Champion again come true this year?
