Fernando Alonso’s comeback story has been nothing short of a dream when all the facts are considered. The Spaniard had revealed a year ago that he is leaving Alpine who were only willing to offer him a one year contract to join Aston Martin. His deal to race in green overalls also included a multi year contract which is what the two time F1 world champion wanted in the first place.

While many in the paddock ridiculed Fernando Alonso for his move to Aston Martin. Although, they were quickly shut down by the Spaniard who went on to achieve multiple podiums with the team in the first half of the season. In recent races, the team seemed to have lost some performance compared to the rest. Mercedes were catching up and able to match the squad. However, Fernando’s performance in Spa seemed like he had gotta his mojo back.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “I think today the car felt more normal. We had a few thoughts after Hungary, after Silverstone, so the team was making a few setup changes also to the car, and I think it paid off today. The car felt more normal, more competitive, so yes, happy and a good boost for summer,” the two time world champion stated.

At the start of the season, Fernando Alonso was second in the standings after Max Verstappen. However, Sergio Perez managed to catch up and take up his spot which demoted him to P3. Ever since then, it has been a close battle with Lewis Hamilton for the Spaniard. Following the 2023 Belgian GP, Fernando is now just one point ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the standings.

Aston Martin on the other hand have had a great season so far. It is certainly better than their previous year where they were fighting at the bottom. With Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll at the helm of the green beast, Aston is able to give the top gunners a run for their money. With the summer break in place, it will be interesting to see what the team is able to do in the remainder of the 2023 F1 campaign.
