The 2023 Monaco GP was nothing but a disaster for Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz as all hell broke loose all throughout the race.
At the end of the race, the Spaniard went on to comment on the incidents that took place leading to the poor result. Unprecedented weather and poor strategies were just some of the things pointed out during the interview.
With Max Verstappen emerging victorious in Monaco, Ferrari on the other hand had no luck even scoring a podium at Leclerc’s home race. The Scuderia will leave Monaco with just disappointment in their hands. Home hero Charles Leclerc finished the race in P6 while Carlos Sainz went on to finish P8. After free practice, there lied some hope for the team to perform but alas, that did not seem to be the case.
Carlos Sainz went on to talk about how he spent his race behind Esteban Ocon with whom he also had an incident. He couldn’t overtake him due to the team’s call while making the first pitstop. This removed all advantage for him and nullified chances of an overcut. He also went on to damage his wing following a crash with Ocon and then went on to spin out at Mirabeau.

In an interview, here is what the Spaniard had to say. “In the second pit stop [to put on inters] maybe I still had a bit of frustration with the first one and wanted to do something different from Ocon. I extended one lap but it was too late,” he said. “I think Monaco, first of all is a bit of a lottery, and today was a bit of a lottery for everyone – probably I just got the worst out of it. We could’ve been a bit more patient but it is how it is.” he continued.
Sainz made contact with Ocon on lap 12 of the Monaco GP when he exited a tunnel and went down the chicane. “He just went in the middle, and with these cars I didn’t have space left or right. We had a little bit of contact but nothing happened. He was braking very early in that corner and I gave it a shot. It’s how it goes. I got a bit lucky,” he stated. “As soon as I braked, I lost the rear and was able to spin it to make sure I didn’t hit hard. Today, I think, we all risked spinning and hitting the walls,” he continued.
Anything and everything went wrong for the Scuderia this weekend. With Monaco being one of the most prestigious and glamorous races on the F1 calendar, it was bonkers to see yet another Ferrari disaster. While Carlos Sainz’s race went down the drain, Estaban Ocon surprised the whole paddock with his podium finish. Fernando Alonso also changed his highest finishing position from P3 to P2 on Sunday.
