Charles Leclerc is ‘looking forward’ to Japanese GP after Ferrari sacrificed him for Carlos Sainz at Singapore GP

Ever since Charles Leclerc‘s historic victory for Ferrari at the Monza Grand Prix in 2019, he has been touted as the future Champion for the Maranello outfit. Even when he was partnering the former Red Bull legend Sebastian Vettel, Leclerc’s talent was not overshadowed by the four-time World Champion. But over the next few years, while Leclerc did come close to getting an F1 title, he could never achieve that goal. And then came his teammate Carlos Sainz from McLaren.

Sainz has wowed as a Ferrari driver from his very first year with the Scuderia. He won their only race in 2022 with a masterful display at the British GP. And now, he has attained victory at Singapore GP, making it Ferrari’s only victory till now in 2023 as well. This has led people to doubt their predictions of Leclerc being the talented future Champion of Ferrari. It now appears that Carlos Sainz is the lowlier whom the Tifosis need to take seriously as he might bring home an F1 title once their car is competent again.

But Charles Leclerc has promised he would give his best efforts to score a better position at the upcoming race in Japan. He has claimed, “I really hope its possible to repeat in Suzuka and I’m looking forward to see that. Because if we do that then it’s a really good sign for the future.” He has also said that Ferrari’s good form cannot be judged only from one race, so they need to assess it after Suzuka.

Charles Leclerc refuses to get his hopes high just after the Singapore GP

Ferrari’s results at the Singapore GP gave rise to renewed hopes that the Scuderia are back in action after a few years of underperformance. But Charles Leclerc is still wary to get his hopes up after only one race where his team came off as a strong force.

Charles Leclerc said (as quoted by X user @JunaidSamodien_), “Singapore has been a very good track for us so we need to wait one more race in order to see whether we have done a really good step forward consistently or whether it’s a one off. Of this I can only tell after Japan.”

On the other hand, the world is now rejoicing Ferrari’s win and the end to Red Bull’s long-drawn dominance. And Mercedes are now expected to take advantage of Red Bull’s weakness to get a Grand Prix win for themselves. It remains to be seen if the Stuttgart-based team can reign superior at one of the remaining races.
