The 2023 iteration of the 24hrs of LeMans was something straight out of the storybooks. Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc was also present at Circuit De La Sarthe in order to support the team’s hypercar division. Ferrari Hypercars were taking part in the topmost category of the racing event competing with the likes of Peugeot, Cadillac and also Toyota.
Ferrari hadn’t been a part of LeMan’s topmost category for decades. However, they decided to make a comeback this year. After what was more than a gap of 50 years, Ferrari was back and racing in the hypercar category. What was even sweeter was the fact that the team went on to win the prestigious race in their first attempt after coming back to endurance racing.
The #51 499P of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi went on to disrupt Toyota’s string of dominance at LeMans. As of now, Antonio is closer to winning the triple crown compared to Charles Leclerc as the Italian conquers LeMans. Looking at the endurance squad, the Monegasque driver has also expressed his interest of racing in the topmost tier of endurance racing.
Charles Leclerc wants to compete in LeMans with Ferrari
Speaking to Eurosport, Leclerc said: “It feels absolutely amazing. Having a Ferrari winning is incredible on a return after so many years, so a very special edition. Unlucky for the second Ferrari, we had a small impact with a small rock on one radiator, so that made us lose a lot of time,” he said. “But I am really happy that Ferrari won, it was an incredible experience,” he continued.
When asked if he would race in LeMans in the future, here is what he had to say. “Why not? I would love to. It is an incredible event. For sure, one day in my life, I want to tick this box but when will it be? I don’t know. Again, extremely proud of what Ferrari has done, it is crazy,” the Ferrari driver went on to say. It will be interesting to see how Leclerc will perform in one of the toughest endurance events in the world.
Charles Leclerc will be shifting his focus back to his F1 stint with Ferrari in 2023. The Monegasque driver has had terrible luck when it comes to the championship fight with Max Verstappen. The Dutchman currently seems to be inevitable as Red Bull has won every single race this season so far. It will be interesting to see if Leclerc can use his newfound motivation from his colleagues in Ferrari’s hypercar team to further fight for glory in F1.
