The 2023 Spanish GP weekend was one of the most dominant performances displayed by Max Verstappen. The Dutchman first won his maiden F1 grand prix at the same track back in 2016. What was more commendable was the fact that Max achieved this feat in his first ever stint with Red Bull Racing. This year’s iteration was no different as the Dutchman went on to win the race.

Max Verstappen absolutely dominated over the whole field over the period of the three days. The Red Bull driver topped every practice session, got pole position for the grand prix and also went on to win the race. To add more to his achievement, he also went on to lead every single lap whilst getting the fastest lap. This meant that he had scored his third ever ‘grand slam’.

Toto Wolff made some comments on Max Verstappen’s top notch form that the Dutch driver’s dominance in the new era of F1 had “p***ed him off.” Hearing that, Christian Horner went on to slam the Mercedes team boss’s remarks on the Red Bull driver. He responded saying that “losing hurts” and that he doesn’t pay much attention to all this being said.

In an interview, here is what the Red Bull team boss had to say regarding the situation. “I don’t pay a great deal of attention to it,” Horner told media including RacingNews365.com. “What matters is the score sheet at the end of the day, and that’s looking pretty healthy. We spent seven years trying to get into a winning position, and losing hurts,” he continued.

“We’ve worked very hard to get into this position, I think the whole team as a unit, and not just Max, is operating at such a high level and we have a phenomenal car,” he stated. “We’ve got two great drivers and Max is just continuing to evolve as a driver, he’s just become more and more polished and the capacity he has within the car is truly impressive,” he concluded.

Max Verstappen’s rise to dominance has been no joke. The Dutch driver has shown what him and the team are capable of achieving. In the 29 races that have taken place since the ground effect regulations came into play, Max has eon 20 of those races. To have a more clear idea, the Red Bull driver has won 14 out of the last 18 F1 races he has taken part in. It will be interesting to see how many records he will be able to break this year.
