Lewis Hamilton‘s move to Ferrari for 2025 has officially been sealed in Formula 1. Hence, multiple people around the grid have been commenting on the pros and cons of the status quo. Amidst these developments, Damon Hill has shared his piece of mind over the former world champion’s unexpected move from Mercedes.
Damon Hill explained that Hamilton took ‘command’ over his career with this move to Ferrari. Regardless, the Briton didn’t fail to acknowledge that it was a big shock to everyone. In addition to this, Hill highlighted that the move to Ferrari provided a lot of benefits to the former world champion, in terms of history, love from fans, etc. Hence, the move to Ferrari might be good according to the former world champion.
Well it's been quite a shock in the system. Lewis has taken command of his career and it's not like Mercedes has said to him not to sign someone else, which is what happened with me. But I think in this decision, we know it's a given that Ferrari benefits of the brand and all the other things that come with romance and the history.Hill told Sky Sports F1.
Additionally, Ferrari has been delivering promising results recently. Maranello had almost overtaken Mercedes in the constructors’ championship during the ultimate race of the season. However, some unfortunate events caused the Reds to lose the runner-up spot in the championship. Also, Hill resonated with the fact that he’d also go for Ferrari rather than Mercedes if presented with the same opportunities on both sides.
Ferrari were starting to solidify as a competitive package, they were starting to get results. And if you had a choice between Mercedes providing you with the same equipments, I'd rather go for Ferrari and try someting different.
Lewis Hamilton still has one year left with Mercedes before turning to Ferrari
Regardless of Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari, the Briton has one year left with Brackley to display good results. The team had a rollercoaster of a season in 2023 and needs to perform well during the 2024 season. Hence, the team had been desperately working on the W15 and displayed optimism over the development of the challenger as well.
However, many people around the paddock claim that Hamilton saw the waning form of the team’s W15 challenger and decided to exit the team unexpectedly. However, exact details of the entire situation are yet to be revealed to the public. Regardless, Hamilton will replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari next year and pair up with Charles Leclerc to form a very strong duo on the grid.
Hence, time will tell about the pros and cons of this switch for the former world champion. The 2024 season would be exciting seeing the Briton race in Brackley’s jumpsuit for the last time in his career. The 39-year-old is set to retire under Ferrari’s outfit as he signs a multi-year contract with Maranello ahead of the 2024 season.
