The Marina Bay Circuit is known for its gruelling weather and its spontaneous accidents. However, it was no match for Daniel Ricciardo as he managed to push through the obstacles and achieve a top 5 finish at the Singapore GP. Having been suffering in the car this year, it is a result that the Aussie driver can finally be proud of. It was high time for the McLaren driver to achieve a result like this after failing to score in the last four races before Singapore.

Daniel Ricciardo beat all odds and managed to score an amazing P5 at the 2022 Singapore GP finishing behind teammate Lando Norris. Daniel who will be departing the team after this season managed to clock in his best finish of the year. Although it required a bit of luck, Daniel didn’t back down as he started in P16 after a poor qualifying and managed to take advantage of those who made mistakes in the race. And that also includes Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen who just didn’t have any luck in yesterday’s race.

It was an amazing call by McLaren who were waiting to pit both their cars until Yuki Tsunoda brought out a late safety car which gave Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris a free pit stop. Teammate Lando Norris on the other hand started the race in 6th and managed to finish 4th bringing home a great points finish for the team. Daniel went on to talk about this amazing finish under the lights in Singapore.

The Aussie further went on to express his thoughts on his result. “We needed this, and as much as I’m looking forward to Japan I want to enjoy this one. “I feel with the result, you know, I certainly feel good – it’s been a long time. I think my last top five was probably a year ago in Saudi… so yeah I hadn’t had one this year, which is kind of sad, but we know the year it’s been and I feel like I was certainly due some good fortune,” he said.

“As tempting as it sounded [to take slicks before the Safety Car], it wasn’t the right call, so we [bided] our time and we were able to gain on the others during that phase and then there was a Safety Car – and then we made a very big gain with the Tsunoda incident,” he continued.

“That was a good situation for us and finally, got back into the points, and obviously a very big day for the team. So, we leave Sunday happy. It’s been a long time,” he concluded.

After finishing the Singapore GP in P4 and P5 respectively, Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris have done a stellar job for the team as their results put them ahead of the Alpine F1 team in the constructors’ standings. As of now McLaren is 4 points ahead of the French team and will be looking to extend that lead even more as the season comes to an end with just 5 races left to go.
