The 2023 Emilia Romagna GP has been canceled after the severe flooding in the region. The chances for the race seemed grim after the paddock was evacuated due to safety concerns before the start of the weekend. The Imola track was loved by fans and drivers alike as a proper high-speed F1 circuit. Subsequently, the paddock sent its condolences for the event.
Drivers took to their social media handles to express their sentiments over the race. Safety is always a priority in Formula 1. As such, this decision was conceived as the right one across the paddock. However, due concern was given to the people of the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy, who have been bearing through the treacherous weather conditions.
The decision was announced on Wednesday after discussions between the stakeholders, including F1, the FIA, the promotors of the race as well as the President of the Emilia-Romagna region and the Mayor of the city. It remains to be seen if the Imola race will find its place on the calendar later this season. However, the chances for such a shift are less for now.
