“The nicest looking car on the grid” – F1 fans drool as Fernando Alonso drives a decal-less AMR22 in post-season testing

Fans love the decal-less AMR22 as Fernando Alonso takes part in post-season testing
As the 2022 Formula 1 season came to an end, and as the post-season test began, drivers changing teams next season got into their new colors for next year. Fernando Alonso is one of the drivers switching camps next year, with the Spaniard leaving Alpine for Aston Martin. The 41-year-old is driving the AMR22 at Yas Marina with the car bearing no sponsorship decals, as Alonso is on loan from the French team till his contract runs out at the end of the year.
The AMR22 failed to impress with its pace as Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll were forced to battle in the back, yet one thing the team did get right with its 2022 challenger was its silhouette and the colors. As Fernando took the car out on-track for the first time, all eyes were drawn towards the British beast, with the Aston Martin green blending in perfectly with the car’s bodywork. The lime accents helped in bringing the design together as well.
It is always fascinating to see an F1 car without sponsors’ logos which more often than not, don’t do justice to a car’s design. However, Formula 1 cars are nothing more than billboards moving at 200mphs for advertisers with the teams selling space on the cars for millions of dollars. Hence it is a rare occasion when we see a car like this, all thanks due to contract obligations set in place. Fernando Alonso is still under contract by Alpine and thus he cannot drive for Aston Martin without the team peeling off the decals from the car.
Fans are delighted to see a sponsor-less AMR22 driven by Fernando Alonso

After a picture of the Aston Martin was posted on Reddit, fans were all over it. Most fans just cherished the beauty of seeing a plain F1 car without the busy stickers. One fan said, “There is something oddly beautiful about that Aston Martin running no sponsors on it, all you need during testing, Driver numbers and nothing else,” while another user replied, “The Aston Martin has got to be the nicest looking car on the grid IMO. Love the colour and accents.”
Some fans were reminded of Fernando Alonso’s private test in 2006 when the Spaniard drove a decal-less chrome McLaren, one user said, “I remember Alonso’s test for McLaren in 06/07. That car looked so hot without decals.” While another user commented, “Reminds me of his 2006 McLaren test when he was still under a Renault contract.” One user loved the car so much that they wanted to drive it themselves! the user stated, “That’s something I’d drive on the road.”
Post-season testing does deliver us with some interesting stuff, it is essentially a start of how the next season would look to be. As it stands, it seems that Aston Martin has got its latest hiring feeling right at home, as the pair look set to work together towards achieving the long-term plan of the Silverstone-based team’s target of winning the Formula 1 world championship. Fernando’s feedback from driving the AMR22 would help the team as it addresses some of the fundamental issues heading into next year.
