“Another weekend, another record” – F1 fans react as Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of achieving another milestone at Abu Dhabi
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has raced for Mercedes since 2013, and over the years, he has rewritten history in his time with the Silver Arrows, with 6 drivers’ titles and 8 consecutive team world championships. This weekend at Yas Marina, this pairing is set to break another record, with Hamilton becoming the first driver in Formula 1 to compete in 200 races for one constructor. A record which seemed unimaginable when the Brit joined the Silver Arrows.
Hamilton’s time at Mercedes has been historic, to say the least. As teammates with Nico Rosberg, we witnessed one of the most intense teammate rivalries ever seen in F1, while the Brackley team dominated the grid, making the rest of the pack compete just for the last podium spot. From 2017-2020, Hamilton was unstoppable, as he won 4 back-to-back titles. It was only in 2021, that the ‘Hammer time’ came to an end.
The 7-time-champion has stayed with the team for a full 10 seasons and is looking set to continue for a few more years. He has won 82 races for the German team, a number which in itself would be the third-highest race wins for a driver in the sport. The team has supported Hamilton in his endeavors outside racing, especially in the fight against racism. Team Principal Toto Wolff has had a great relationship with the 37-year-old, as the duo enjoys working together.
This milestone will be just one of the dozens, Hamilton has reached in his career, but this makes it clear that the Brit taking the advice of Niki Lauda and joining the Silver Arrows in 2013 was the best career decision ever. The late Lauda must be proud of what the British driver has achieved. Despite a mundane 2022 season, the 37-year-old has delivered solid results for the team, as he has focused more on helping the team get back to the top.
F1 fans praise Lewis Hamilton as he gets another record to his name
On Twitter, fans appreciated Hamilton’s latest achievement, many fans stating how the 37-year-old breaks records on a consistent basis, one user said, “Another week, another record what a legend” while another fan commented, “Breaking records every week.” One fan also praised Lewis’s brilliance and replied, “Now that’s what I’m talking about! Sir Lewis Hamilton is the real DEAL!” Another user made a sarcastic comment about Lewis’s move to Mercedes and said, “Was a terrible move from Lewis to leave McLaren.”
Hamilton and Mercedes may have got another record coming to them, but they would be aiming for a better season in 2023 after falling behind Red Bull and Ferrari this season due to problems with the car. The 7-time world champion is also on the verge to have his first F1 season without a race win if he fails to win in Abu Dhabi. After the 1-2 at Interlagos and George Russell’s first win in the sport, team Brackley would be giving everything this Sunday.
