The historic Monaco Grand Prix is less than a week away, and the racers have already arrived at the Principality for the weekend’s proceedings. On the Tuesday ahead of the race at the Circuit dé Monaco, the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz took to the field to indulge in a game of football. The match was being held in support of a charity by the National Football Team of Drivers and the Star Team MC at the Louis II Stadium, just like the previous years.

Football is a dangerous contact sport, and quite a few fans were surprised to see the drivers taking part in the match with only a few days left for the Monaco GP. And ultimately, the thing that they feared the most, turned out to be true. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. succumbed to an injury during the match, and had to retire from it. Moments later, pictures of the Spaniard being attended by a medic went viral on the internet. By the looks of it, Sainz has sustained an injury fo the upper right leg.

In the photo that circulated on Twitter, Carlos Sainz’s right leg was seen to be propped up on a chair, and the upper part was secured with medical tape. There has been no official information regarding the extent of the injury, thus it remains a mystery to the fans whether Carlos Sainz will be seen behind the wheels of the Ferrari SF-23 at the Monaco GP later this week.

Carlos Sainz debuted with Ferrari in 2021, and since then, he has been notorious for gettings several DNFs due to his crash-prone driving as well as technical difficulties with his car. In his first year with the Scuderia, he crashed into George Russell at the British GP Qualifiers. Added to this, he also retired from a whopping 6 races in 2022 alone–Australia, Imola, Azerbaijan, Austria, Japan and USA.

Now, five races into the current 2023 season, Carlos has not yet had a DNF. But fans are afraid he might not even get to start the race in Monaco because of the injury sustained at his charity football match–

In other news, Ferrari have made headlines with the recent developments in their plan to take up Lewis Hamilton with a massive $50M pay package. Although the official confirmations are yet to arrive, reports have claimed that the Scuderia are eyeing to approach the 38-year-old racer for a tenure at the Maranello outfit as Carlos Sainz’s replacement.
