“Could you tell Danny he has a penalty every race?”- Fans react as McLaren race engineer posts memes on Daniel Ricciardo after Mexican GP

“Could you tell Danny he has a penalty every race?”- Fans react as McLaren race engineer posts memes on Daniel Ricciardo after Mexican GP

Daniel Ricciardo had an amazing result despite of a 10 second penalty at the Mexican GP

On Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo started the Mexican Grand Prix from P11, however, his chances looked slim as he collided with Yuki Tsunoda, forcing the Alpha Tauri to retire and subsequently receive a 10-second time penalty. It was then that Ricciardo sped up his pace and provided one of, if not the best drives of the season, finishing P7 even after the 10 seconds added to his time.

Daniel Ricciardo has had a rough couple of seasons in Formula 1. The Aussie has changed teams twice in the past few years and has been struggling against his McLaren teammate Lando Norris, eventually leading to Daniel losing out on a seat on the F1 grid for next year. Fans have missed the Honey Badger who was the master of late braking and won multiple races for Red Bull Racing. Ricciardo thus was looking to finish the 2022 season with consistent performances for the Woking team.

After Danny Ric’s incident with Tsunoda, it seemed that the 33-year-old will be losing out on a points finish for his team. But this was the moment which motivated the Aussie to show his true pace as the Honey Badger lapped faster than his rivals and extended his lead to Esteban Ocon in P8 to over 11 seconds by the end of the race. Proving to his critics that he still has what it takes to be racing at the pinnacle of motorsport.

F1 fans hope that Daniel Ricciardo repeats such a stellar drive

Daniel Ricciardo created a big gap to his teammate Lando Norris by the end of the race.

Post-race, Ricciardo’s race engineer, Tom Stallard tweeted a meme, “Whomst has awakened the ancient one” in reference to Danny finally showing us the pace he had shown time and time again at Red Bull. Fans were hysterical, with most wanting Mclaren to lie to the Australian in order to get such drives in the next two races. One fan replied, “Could you tell Danny he has a penalty every race?”, while another user said, “tell him he has a penalty during the final two races, even if he doesn’t?”

Some users also urged Mclaren for letting the Aussie off the hook more often, with one fan tweeting, “Maybe should have let him off the leash more often Stolli?” the next user said, “This is what happens when the car is decent and he’s given the right strategy” Thus the after the Mexican Grand Prix, fans do believe Daniel Ricciardo still is one of the most talented guys in F1 and someone who we all will miss when he won’t be racing in the sport next season.
