F1 Fans speculate the return of Sebastian Vettel as his career’s timeline matches Michael Schumacher

Sebastian Vettel was mentored by Michael Schumacher in and outside of F1

Sebastian Vettel is retiring at the end of this year, leaving the grid with several achievements to his name. He is by far the most loved driver in Formula 1 today. With fans still not recovering from the news of his retirement. The four-time world champion always looked up to one man, in particular, Michael Schumacher. Schumacher guided the Aston Martin driver to his path in F1 and the two had a close relationship on and off track.

The duo has competed together at the Race of Champions and won for their home country. Vettel has had the chance to learn from his senior counterpart. A moment that we all remember is from the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix when Schumacher let the Red Bull driver pass him in order to ensure Vettel’s third world title. Vettel’s move to Ferrari will always be seen as his wish to repeat the success of Michael, who had rewritten history with the prancing horse.

Therefore it comes as no surprise when people compare this German pair and look for similarities. One is Vettel’s friendship with Michael’s son Mick Schumacher which is considered the same bonding that the seven-time world champion had with Vettel, something which even Mick has identified. Hence after Vettel’s retirement from Formula 1, fans wish him to make a comeback to Formula 1 the same way his idol did in 2010. And the entry of Audi into F1 provides the perfect opportunity.

Fans just need Sebastian Vettel in F1

The two Germans have contested and won the Race of Champions

Fans love Seb and will find any reason for him to stay. Recently a user tweeted a comparison between the careers of the 35-year-old and Michael, thus giving fans some hope that just like how Schumacher came back with Mercedes entering F1, so shall Vettel come back with the entry of another German giant, Audi. Another point of similarity is a 25-year-old winning his second world championship in the year of their retirement. (Fernando Alonso 2006, Max Verstappen 2022)

Fans tweeted their reactions, one user saying, “C’mon Audi, pls do it!” hoping to make this speculation true. Another fan tweeted, “Imagine Seb and Mick with Audi,” wanting an all-German lineup. On a more darker note, a user said, “Yes, but please don’t go to ski,” wanting the four-time world champion to stay aware of trouble.

Realistically it has become clear that Vettel wants to spend more time with his family and to raise awareness about climate change, making his F1 return as a driver highly unlikely. But the future can always surprise us, let’s hope that we keep seeing him in the paddock.
