After racing together for a while, it’s safe to say that Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have a lot of respect for each other. On several occasions, the duo has had each other’s backs and have shown their admiration towards each other. It is clear that Max and Fernando have some similar quirks. For example, both are two time F1 world champions.
At the start of the season, Fernando Alonso seemed to put on a proper charge to hunt down Max Verstappen in the standings. However, after being projected to become the 2023 World Champion, the Spaniard is yet to conquer his dream. For now, it seems more likely that Max Verstappen will take home the title before the season even ends.
In an interview, here is what Fernando Alonso had to say about Max Verstappen. “I like Max, he’s a driver who just comes Thursday to the circuit, dresses in a Red Bull uniform, races Saturday and Sunday and leaves the track, goes back home and is still racing on the sim or in GTs with his father or just enjoying motorsport in general but having a normal life,” he said.
Fernando Alonso appreciates Max Verstappen’s normalcy and love for motorsport
Here is what he had to say regarding the same. “Coming also from the Netherlands, [a country] with not much background of F1. He’s still a very normal person, just loving motorsport, and he’s very fast,” he said. “I think his attitude and behaviour here in the circuit, he is very normal and I like these kinds of things,” the two time F1 world champion continued.
Currently, Fernando Alonso sits in 3rd place on the points table for the championship. However, he is under threat from Lewis Hamilton who is just a single point behind the Spaniard. With the first half of the 2023 F1 season coming to an end, it will be interesting to see what the Spaniard has in store after a few weeks in Netherlands. This will also be Max’s home race.
