Ever since Fred Vasseur shifted from Alfa Romeo to become the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari, there hasn’t been a considerable improvement. As a matter of fact, the Scuderia has had a worse start to the season compared to last year where they left Bahrain with a 1-2. However, things seemed to be promising at the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix for a change.

Charles Leclerc brought home Ferrari’s first podium of the season while teammate Carlos Sainz classified fifth. However, even with third place, it was clear that the Ferrari’s were nowhere near the pace of the Bulls. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez seemed to be in their own league as Leclerc went on to finish the race with a 21 second defeat to Max who finished second.

Team principal Fred Vasseur has also been realistic about the team’s performance till now. It is still a mystery whether the team’s deficit is due to aerodynamic components or mechanical components. Nevertheless, things are looking upwards for Miami as the team will be bringing some changes to the car. Ferrari’s upgrade programme will take it’s first steps this weekend.

In an interview with Autosport, here is what he had to say. “We will start to bring updates on the car from Miami and for the next couple of events and we will see how the car will react to the updates,” he said. “The update is one thing but the fact that you are able to extract all of the potential out of the update is another one,” he continued.

“Overall, they were faster than us and we don’t have to bullshit ourselves,’ he said. “Then to understand if it is coming from aero or mechanical is another story,” he said. “I think so far what is obvious is that we are struggling with consistency. It’s true this weekend, all over the lap, all over the corners and all over the race. [But] I think the car was much more consistent this weekend and we are going in the right direction,” he stated.

Ferrari hasn’t had the best of starts to their F1 season so far. Nevertheless they aim to make improvements with their update package for the 2023 Miami Grand Prix taking place this weekend. Fred Vasseur is being cautiously optimistic about the weekend as they aim to beat the Bulls on pure pace. Max Verstappen won the inaugural race last year. Can the Dutchman make it two for two in Miami?
