“We can have up to 12 teams on the grid,” FIA President fires an argument at those who are opposed to Andretti’s F1 entry
In recent news, the Formula 1 world has been filled with noise regarding the proposed entry of some new teams into the circuit after the FIA President announced that they are making arrangements for the same. As per the statement of Mohammed bin Sulayem, it will not be long before the existing ten teams in Formula 1 are joined by some more competitors, and one name keeps springing up whenever discussions take place on the new F1 teams in the making–and that is, the Andretti F1 team.
Andretti Autosport is already an established company in the USA, and its owners are the legendary Andretti family, headed by their patriarch Michael Andretti. Now, Michael has always harbored the dream of forming his own Formula 1 team which would compete in the Grands Prix as a part of the highest league of motorsports in the world. The American, who is the son of Mario Andretti–one of the only three racers in history to have won races in Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, and the World Sportscar Championship–has been gearing up for his team’s entry into F1 in the next few years’ time.
Unfortunately for Michael Andretti, most of the existing personnel on the F1 grid have not been too welcoming of the idea of his team’s F1 debut. But FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem has recently given his statement on the opposition that his ruling on the entry of new teams has achieved. He said there is every possibility that there will be new entrants in Formula 1, disregarding the comments of those who believe the competition is already saturated and there is no need for Andretti to send his team into F1.

Mohammed bin Sulayem believes opening the doors of Formula 1 to new teams will be a “sustainable” step
As the Dakar Rally is going on right now and the FIA president Mohammed Bin Sulayem had to be present at the event that is sparking new headlines in the motorsports world everyday, he gave a statement regarding the controversy surrounding the entry of some new teams into Formula 1.
Bin Sulayem said, “In general, if we look at the sustainability of Formula 1, we have to open it up to other brands. We can have up to 12 teams on the grid. I see no reason for which we should not welcome new teams, especially the Americans. We have three races there already this year. We welcome any proposal to be one of the 12 teams. We accept good teams, even if they are small, as is the case with Haas. We hope that things will change and we will be able to have a proper eleventh team, we’ll see what happens.”
Already, Michael Andretti himself has spoken out against those who are opposing his entry into Formula 1, claiming them as being driven by “greed”. While all seems to point towards the possibility of 12 teams competing in F1, there is still a lot of time before new competition enters the field. Thus, it remains to be seen how the existing teams fight it out for the Championship in the all-new Formula 1 2023 season which will surely grab the eyeballs with some sizzling competition between rival teams and their drivers.
