Franz Tost elaborates on Nyck deVries’s plights which led to his AlphaTauri dismissal, claims ‘he couldn’t raise his level’
AlphaTauri Boss Franz Tost opens up about the events that led to Nyck deVries' untimely dismissal.
Franz Tost, the team manager for AlphaTauri, recently addressed Nyck de Vries’ expulsion from the Italian team after just ten races. The Austrian emphasized on how challenging Formula 1 has currently become for rookie drivers without extensive test runs. As a guest at the FIA Team Boss press conference, Franz Tost once more offered his opinion on Nyck de Vries’ dismissal after his initial comments on the matter.
The decision made by the team was emotionally challenging because rookies are harder to predict in the first half of the season owing to uncharted routes, but Tost was quite clear when he remarked, “I expected better performances in Austria and England because he knows these routes, but the performances did not materialise.” Tost said all Nyck has is himself to blame.
Tost also said the second half of the season, Daniel Ricciardo will have an edge because there will be routes that de Vries is unfamiliar with, such as Singapore and Suzuka. In light of this, it was decided to change and rely on Ricciardo’s expertise. The team is very excited to work with a driver of Daniel’s calibre. Red Bull went into damage control for AlphaTauri when they loaned the Australian to their sister team since the Aussie has an unparalleled experience of over 200 Grands Prix to put to use.
Nyck deVries 2.0 might soon emerge after AlphaTauri exit
With Max Verstappen tipping Nyck to get away with his loss and make a better comeback, it’s something for the future. Recently after his dismissal from Alpha Tauri, Nyck has been seen with Toto Wolf at a coffee shop. Rumours suggest he might have a few offers from several teams in Formula E as well for a potential move back to the segment where he has already been crowned a Champion once.
Nyck has a potential option to join the Nissan Formula E team in the future from the 2024 season and also has an option to work with Mercedes if Mick finds himself in a seat for 2024 in a Williams or any other team on the grid. Nyck has another option up his sleeve joining the Toyota WEC team where he has been playing the part of a 3rd driver since 2020. The final option is the Maserati Formula E team which will be converted from the Venturi team later this summer.
