French Grand Prix 2022 Predictions: Ferrari to put up a great show while Aston Martin might disappoint

The stage, or rather, the Circuit Paul Ricard, is all set to host the twelfth round of this year’s F1 2022 Championship as fans have already started gathering for the French Grand Prix. This GP is the home race for Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, so there is a lot of expectations from those two young racers. But mostly, fans will be looking forward to get another close battle between the two teams which are presumably the frontrunners in the Championship battle–Ferrari and Red Bull.

During Saturday’s Qualifying, Ferrari demolishes a number of opinions that their critics had formed about them–one of them being that the Maranello outfit cannot come up with a good strategy and the second opinion being Carlos Sainz is not a team player. After the Qualifiers were over, even some Red Bull fans took to Twitter to applaud Ferrari for their strategy calls and also praised Carlos Sainz for lending some slip stream to his teammate to make sure Charles Leclerc got the pole position and not Max Verstappen.

Here are our predictions for the French Grand Prix 2022

As Carlos Sainz will be starting from the back of the grid for an engine penalty, the starting grid will have the two Red Bulls, two McLarens, two Mercedes’, two Alpines, and AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda as well as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the top 10. But Carlos is expected to quickly overtake his rivals and come back up from P19 to engage in the battle at the front with Red Bull. So, it goes without saying that the French Grand Prix will witness some amazing title battle today, and we are ready with our predictions as to which team will have the last laugh in the end!

Ferrari will continue their purple patch in France

The Scuderia Ferrari have given a lot of hopes to the Tifosi after winning at the last two Grands Prix in Britain and Austria. If the Maranello outfit manage to secure a race win for Charles Leclerc at Circuit Paul Ricard today, then they will get their much-needed hattrick which will take them a long way in their title battle against Red Bull. We believe Ferrari will come through and maintain their slow but steady pace in removing the points gap between them and Red Bull in the Championship table.

Aston Martin will have a pretty disappointing run

Although we are all heart-eyes for Sebastian Vettel, and we did cheer as we got the news that he will be driving a hundred-year-old Aston Martin around the tracks in Circuit Paul Ricard this weekend, the fact that the Aston Martins of Seb and Lance Stroll were surprisingly slow during FP2 and then in the Qualifying, is undeniable. On Friday, Seb got a P13 and Lance got a P15 finish in FP2 and in the Qualifying, Lance got the same finish while Seb was able to improve his rank by one place. Overall, it is quite evident that Aston Martin will not be able to make their mark in France and will likely be overtaken by Haas and Alpine.

McLaren will have a decent race at Circuit Paul Ricard

Ahead of the French Grand Prix, McLaren came out with a host of upgrades for their MCL36 in an attempt to improve their race pace and go higher up in the points table for the Championship. During the Qualifying, it looked like McLaren’s plan had worked as Lando Norris put up an impressive performance to get the fifth position in the starting grid, and Daniel Ricciardo was also decent with his pace as he secured a P9 spot for himself. Thus, it seems that both the McLarens will have a good run in France today, and maybe Norris might bag a second podium finish for this season, after a long wait since Imola.
