‘He has his father’s work ethic’: Ross Brawn backs Mick Schumacher to ‘take the next step’ in his career

Ross Brawn, former Ferrari boss and a friend of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, recently took over the conversation about Mick Schumacher’s future. The German hasn’t had the best of times at Haas. He failed to get a point in his debut F1 season, but that was no wonder considering the poor package Haas had in 2021. But things are much more competitive and open for Mick as this year, and the team have sometimes performed way beyond expectations.

Mick managed to score his first points at Silverstone and then impressed with a 6th place finish in Austria. This season hasn’t been smooth sailing for the German, but he has still impressed on occasion. Guenther Steiner craves for more consistency from the 23-year old which he has failed at. Steiner hasn’t been under the covers about his feelings to replace Mick with a much more experienced driver.

Schumacher had to encounter a returning Kevin Magnussen as his teammate this season. Ross Brawn still appreciated Mick for his position with the team around an experienced teammate. “He has a really good reference in Kevin Magnussen as a team-mate and he is now at an important crossroads in his career. He certainly deserves to take the next step in his career. And that’s what he’ll be judged on then,” said Ross.

Michael Schumacher, a seven-time world champion, with 91 race wins and multiple records all around his name is considered to be the greatest of all time. Mick, being his son was brought out to people as a young Schumacher with the talent of his father, and expectations were sky high. Though Mick hasn’t been ‘that’ good, Ross Brawn, who worked with Schumacher Sr. at Ferrari did compare them.

“He’s different from his father, who was always on the limit straight away,” added Brawn. “Mick takes a bit longer, but in the end he won the titles in the junior classes. He’s very talented, has 100% adopted the work ethic from his father and is extremely capable of improving. That’s crucial,” concluded Ross Brawn as per PlanetF1.

Mick Schumacher has improved considerably but is still under threat of losing his seat for the 2023 season, with Guenther Steiner very much interested in Daniel Ricciardo. With no other teams really interested in the German, things could go wrong for him as critics have always been a part of Schumacher’s life.
