“Heart on his sleeve”: F1 fans pour in their love as they watch George Russell tearing up after getting maiden victory at Interlagos

From standing in the queue for Lewis Hamilton‘s autograph to teaming up with the seven-time World Champion after signing up as a Mercedes driver, George Russell has done it all. And now, he has gone way above his other achievements to finally clinch his first-ever Grand Prix victory in Formula 1, and that too, in a year where Mercedes have not been able to win any other Grands Prix before the Sao Paulo GP.

Throughout the weekend in Brazil, the Silver Arrows had stolen the show with their superior speed, and even Max Verstappen admitted that Mercedes looked unbeatable on the Interlagos Circuit. While Lewis Hamilton‘s race was indeed hampered by his collision with Max Verstappen a few laps into the race, George’s run in Brazil was impeccable as he had a clean start, and he also managed to get a smooth run after two restarts following the yellow flags.

When Russell crossed the chequered, and realised he was the first one to do so, he broke into tears, and his photos and videos did rounds on the internet as all the fans cheered for the Briton. F1 Twitter shared the first-time Grand Prix winner’s photo on their page, and everyone commented on how George Russell‘s vulnerability and his emotions, which he showed after winning the Sao Paulo GP, proved he is genuinely grateful to be where he is in his career today.

Besides George Russell’s brilliant race win at Interlagos, the other Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, even after sustaining some damage from the collision with Max Verstappen, managed to end the race on a high with a P2 finish. Following Lewis was Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who drew up the top 3 in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil.
