For Stuttgart-based team Mercedes, the start to their 2022 season of Formula 1 had not been a particularly favourable one. While Mercedes had stayed the undisputed Champion for eight years in F1’s turbo-hybrid era, their supremacy saw a decline in the first few races of the new season after the FIA announced some rule changes for this year.
Despite all the upsetting results that Mercedes had to sit with, their newcomer driver George Russell has excelled in his role as a newbie Merc racer, and outscored his teammate, seven-time World Championship winner Lewis Hamilton, in four out of the five races that have happened till now in 2022.
Speaking of the dynamics between the two British drivers in Mercedes, their Team Principal Toto Wolff spoke about how he is very satisfied with the two talented racers.

Ever since George Russell made the move to Williams in 2019 following his F1 Championship victory, everyone had known he was slated for a seat in Mercedes in the upcoming future. Toto Wolff finally signed the Briton on for Mercedes in 2022, and said he is one of the most rational drivers on the grid.
According to Wolff, George works hard to prove his position at every situation, and that has helped him gain points in this season, despite Mercedes’ poor overall performance.
Toto Wolff has always stood by the point that the driver dynamics between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell is crucial for Mercedes’ overall performance as a team. And now, the Austrian has said that the two Britons have matched each other in talent and performance and he is very happy about it. He praised newcomer Russell, saying, “He is very rational. Whether he’s fastest, driving P2 or whether he’s 11th. It’s just about applying the science and trying to make the car faster.”
Toto Wolff also went on to say, “I couldn’t wish for a better driver pair.”
