F1 has come to Singapore after a long time having last visited the track in 2019 where Charles Leclerc got pole position. It feels like nothing has changed at the front as the Ferrari driver put his challenger on pole position for the second time today in a gruelling qualifying session. There was one particular incident that sent the fans rumbling as Ferrari actually managed to fail a task successfully.

The Singapore GP qualifying was a wet/dry session and had plenty of drama attached to it. Going on slick tyres seemed to be a risk worth taking for many drivers including Charles Leclerc. Further on in Q1, the Ferrari driver went on the team radio and asked the team to put him on soft tyres. Although it looked like the team had completely different plans, it was evident to Charles as he entered his pit box for a tyre change.

To his surprise, it felt like Ferrari had completely ignored Leclerc’s message and put new inters on his car. The moment people saw this happen live, Twitter was filled with tweets taking a dig at Ferrari for always messing up. Although, as seen from the Aston Martin’s of Seb and Lance, it was evident that the session was not favourable for slicks yet. This in turn prevented Ferrari from messing up in qualifying. Here is how Twitter reacted to this hilarious situation.

Although it seemed like a team error or maybe the team didn’t listen to Charles, I feel that it could be something deeper. Drivers and teams like to play mind games during qualifying which makes me think that it was a clever attempt to confuse competitors and make them switch to the slick tyres. It’s things like this that make the sport more interesting. Whether the team used this tactic or not is a mystery but we surely got to witness history as Charles Leclerc managed to score his 9th pole position of the season in Singapore.
