“I still have that fire in me”: Daniel Ricciardo talks about his Formula 1 career after McLaren exit
Daniel Ricciardo
McLaren recently announced that they would be parting ways with eight time F1 race winner Daniel Ricciardo after the end of this season. This means that he would be splitting with the woking based outfit one year earlier than his actual contracts states. Daniel Ricciardo, who has been struggling consistently to get to terms with the McLaren car, is going to be a free agent from next year onwards. He is not sure where he will race but he says that he is confident about his capabilites to compete at the very top level of motorsports.
Ricciardo, while confirming the news of the split on his personal social media channel, said, “I look back at this time with McLaren with a smile. I learnt a lot about myself and I think things that will help me with the next step in my career but also just in general, in life.”
He ended his post saying, “The sport, I still love it… I still love it. This hasn’t effected any of that. I still have that fire in me and that belief in my belly that I can do this at the highest level.”

Daniel Ricciardo still remains one of the most-wanted drivers on the grid
Even though Ricciardo hasn’t been able to unlock the potential of the McLaren F1 car for two seasons in a row, he is still one of the most exciting options on the driver market because of the immense experience he has got.
However, the part that would be worrying the ever-jolly australian would be that there aren’t too many open seats in F1 for next year. Only Alpine, Alfa Romeo, Haas and WIlliams are the teams left to officially finalise and announce their complete line-up for next year.
Ricciardo also talked about the agreement he had with McLaren about their seperation,“We had a lot of discussions but in the end we mutually decided it was the best thing for both of us. I will continue to do the rest of this year, absolutely, and I’ll continue to give it my all.”
He also said, “From a result point of view, for sure, consistently to get the results and the form that I was after it wasn’t always there and it was tough. I felt those absolutely. But I also have many happy memories of my time at the team.”
Even though Ricciardo did struggle to perform at the level that he was expected to, he still remains the only McLaren winner since 2012. Therefore, many believe that given a car that suits him, Ricciardo still has a lot of potential in him. Whether that is true, remains to be seen.
