“Ice Fuc**ng Cold,” F1 Twitter lavishes praise on Max Verstappen for showing nerves of steel to claim Miami GP victory

At a race where Max Verstappen was almost driving into the wall due to the unbelievably narrow Miami race track in FP3 on Friday, the Dutchman came through during the Main Race and delivered one of his best performances this season. The reigning World Champion, who went into the first-ever Miami Grand Prix with little practice as he could not set a lap time in FP2 and missed out most of FP1 as well, all his fans were anxious that he might not be able to get a good result.

On Saturday, Max’s Qualifying pace was amazing as he went into the 1:27’s before any other driver did, but at the end of Q3, Charles Leclerc clocked in the fastest time, and the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz followed suit. So, Max was down in P3 for starting the race on Sunday. Despite a second row start in a circuit that is virtually unknown to him, Max Verstappen showed nerves of steel as he flew to the lead in Miami.

2021 F1 World Champion Max Verstappen wants to add another Championship to his name this year as well. But due to some early issues with the reliability of his Red Bull RB-18, the driver was 27 points behind Charles Leclerc at the start of the Miami Grand Prix. Desperate to gain an advantage on his rival Leclerc, yet starting from the second row behind the two Ferraris, Verstappen knew he could make no mistkes of he wanted to win the race.

And as he finished the last of the 57 laps and went past the finishing line, his fans hailed his nerves for gaining the lead and maintaining it throughout the race.

For Max Verstappen, the hunger for a race win surpassed all other problems in his mind. Yes, he was at an initial disadvantage as he was starting the race behind both the Ferraris, but with good reflexes, he managed to overtake Carlos Sainz in turn 1 itself. And then, with the Red Bull’s superior speed on the straights, he caught up with frontrunner Charles Leclerc and went past him.

In a race where chaos was rampant as Pierre Gasly collided with Lando Norris, leading to the safety car being deployed, Max Verstappen kept his cool and defended his position against Leclerc. During the 50th lap of the race, when the race restarted after the safety car, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari SF-75 was breathing down the neck of Verstappen’s Red Bull. Yet, the reigning Champion managed to stay clear of Leclerc.

As Verstappen went on to clinch the title of the winner of the first-ever Miami Grand Prix, his fans took to Twitter to congratulate him for achieving the difficult feat of winning the race after starting behind both Ferraris in P3 position. Max Verstappen had shrewdly and coolly planned his strategy and went with it, and now, he’s the winner of round 5 of the 2022 Formula 1 Championship.
