“If they’ve taken Vasseur because he’s close to Charles, that’s completely the wrong reason”: Martin Brundle blasts Ferrari for appointing Frederic Vasseur
Being the oldest and most successful F1 team in the history of the sport, Ferrari has a massive legacy to live up to. But they have not been able to do justice to their name by winning the Constructors’ Championship in a long time. The last season where the Maranello outfit had been successful in bringing the coveted title home was back in 2008, and the last time a Scuderia racer got the WDC victory was in 2007. Thus, it has been about 15 years since those historic wins and the Tifosis are impatient for some good results from the team.
At the very start of the 2022 season, Ferrari’s show of pace on the racetracks with Charles Leclerc winning the opening race at Bahrain wowed everyone as the F1 pundits claimed the team to be the Championship favorites. But their initial hype died down as the Scuderia could not keep up with the rapidly advancing forces of Red Bull, as the Austrian team unlocked the key to their race pace and managed to surpass Ferrari in the Championship Standings without much trouble. And in a similar fashion, Charles Leclerc was also left behind by defending Champion Max Verstappen in the points table.
In the end, despite being the initial Championship favorites, Ferrari lost that position to Red Bull and had to settle for the second place in the title battle. This showed all the fans that the team lacks some serious force that it needs to get back to the winning ways. In the midst of all this, Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto decided to step down from his duties as it was stark clear that the team was not advancing much under his leadership. And now, Alfa Romeo alumnus Fréderic Vasseur has been confirmed as the new Team Principal for the Scuderia.

Martin Brundle does not agree with the decision to appoint Frederic Vasseur as Ferrari’s Team Principal
F1 commentator and former racing driver Martin Brundle spoke out in the matter concerning Frederic Vasseur‘s appointment as the Team Principal of Ferrari. While many of the Tifosis are rejoicing the change in the leadership in hopes of finding the new Team Principal to be able to steer Ferrari back to their winning ways, Brundle believes the reality will be far from what is planned. He said, “I’m not quite sure why Ferrari would choose now to have a month without a boss. I do think they should have given Binotto more time.”
From Martin Brundle’s take on the entire matter, it is quite clear that he is doubtful regarding Frederic Vasseur’s skills to lead Ferrari. As the Team Principal to the world’s most popular F1 team, it is quite obvious that Frederic Vasseur has a lot of expectations to live up to. It only remains to be seen how the Frenchman manages to fulfil his duties and answer the Tifosis’ prayers to get Ferrari back to the top once more.
