Lance Stroll has been driving in the shadows for most of the races that have taken place this year. The Canadian had made headlines at the start of the season following his road from recovery to P6 in the 2023 Bahrain GP. Stroll was involved in a bike accident which in turn resulted in multiple injuries. No one expected for him to compete in the first race of the season after miss out on pre-season testing.

Nevertheless Lance Stroll did not give up and was medically cleared to race. While his teammate Fernando Alonso scored a podium, the Canadian driver’s miraculous P6 finish was highly appreciated by the fans and critics. However, it has gone a bit downhill for him ever since. The 2023 Miami GP was one of the prime examples depicting how Stroll’s start to the F1 season is going so far.

After being put with a one tyre strategy for qualifying, the Canadian started from P18 on the grid. Max Verstappen and Red Bull went on to showcase their dominance with a 1-2 finish. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso got the better result compared to Stroll with a podium finish. Sadly, Lance could only manage a 12 place finishing position wherein he was 2 seconds away from a points paying position.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “It’s great for the team but I’m pretty pissed off at my weekend,” said Stroll. “I didn’t score points, I wanted more out of it. It was just a tough race, with a DRS train the whole way, but the damage was done (in qualifying). So a tough one,” he continued. Lance was also pissed over Aston Martin not giving him enough information leading to him giving the team a wake up call during the race.

“I just felt I was stuck in traffic, and there wasn’t much happening in the race,” said Stroll.”I just wanted to know what was going on and maybe take an alternative strategy,” he said. “We’ll speak about it. It was just a hard race. There was no degradation and it was difficult to overtake, so when it’s like that, it’s always tough when you start at the back,” he stated.

While Lance Stroll struggles with the right strategy and team mishaps, Fernando Alonso is out there carrying the team. Aston Martin currently sits in second place in the constructors standings. Alonso on the other hand has gotten 4 podium’s and one 4 th place finish in five races. While the Spaniard is guiding Lance, the Canadian has been in the shadows of the 2 time F1 world champion pretty much the whole time.
