“It doesn’t count in the budget cap,” Dr Helmut Marko jokes around as Red Bull throws a big Christmas party
Dr Helmut Marko
Dr Helmut Marko and the entirety of Red Bull racing had worked pretty hard in order to make sure that the team retains their driver’s championship and bags the constructors championship in the 2022 season. With their determination and ‘never give up’ attitude, the Milton Keynes based team was able to bag both the titles in what was the team’s most successful season to date.
To celebrate, the team had a big event in Milton Keynes where they had a showrun with multiple cars backed by the Red Bull brand driving and doing donuts. Apart from that, the team also threw a Christmas Party in London. When asked about the , Dr Helmut Marko went on to state that this won’t be included in the budget cap. The team had been found guilty of spending over the limit that was told to them.
Due to their negligence, The team breached the cost cap by £1,864,000 ($2.2m) or 1.6% of the allotted amount. For this, Red Bull was demanded to pay a $7 million dollar fine to the FIA along with a 10% deduction in the car development time for a period of 12 months. This meant less time to test parts in the wind tunnel. The team had stated that the overspend was due to money spent on catering which the fans made into a big joke.
Dr Helmut Marko couldn’t attend the massive event in Milton Keynes
“I wasn’t there at the celebration in Milton Keynes,” Helmut Marko told Auto Motor und Sport. “There was a big show run with everything we have in motorsport. From rally cars to Formula 1. For Milton Keynes, Red Bull is the sporting figurehead. Then we had our Christmas party in London. It doesn’t count in the budget cap. According to our calculations, we’re well below that this year, but we want to confirm that early enough so that we don’t experience the same kind of surprises as last year,” he concluded.
The 2022 season has been absolutely amazing for Red Bull racing. The team managed to bag both the championships and went on to win 17 out of the 22 races held this season. Dutch driver Max Verstappen went on to win 15 races whilst Sergio Perez won 2. That makes it Red Bull Racing’s most successful season to date. Dr Helmut Marko will be proud of the team’s trajectory with respect to the new era of F1.
