“It will be nice to have a day in the car”: Fernando Alonso admits he is “looking forward” to post-season test run in Abu Dhabi
Fernando Alonso
Just when the current 2022 World Championship had entered its second half only a few months ago, the drivers’ market drama for next season fired up as Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from F1 at the end of this year. This meant that his seat at Aston Martin would be up for grabs, and Fernando Alonso seized that opportunity and made the move to the British team, to partner up with Lance Stroll. Alonso had re-entered F1, after a hiatus since his exit in 2018, with a contract with Alpine.
Over the last two seasons, Fernando Alonso has consistently performed well with his French team, scoring quite a good number of top 10 finishes. But the two-time World Champion wants to go for more than just point finishes–he wants to win races. Thus, he decided to move to Aston Martin, stating that he “believes in the goal that Aston Martin targets to achieve”.
In the recently-held Brazilian Grand Prix, there was a mild collision between Fernando Alonso and his own Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon. This prompted the Spaniard to say that he “cannot wait” to move to Aston Martin next season. And now, he has commented on the post-season testing that he needs to take part in, with his new team, to assess how well he can fit into the Aston Martin system.

Fernando Alonso talks about the importance of the post-season testing with his new team
The current Formula 1 season is almost at an end and it is only a matter of time before the post-season tes drives kick off following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. At this point, Fernando Alonso, who will be joining an entirely new team in the next year, was asked how important post-season test run would be for his preparations for Aston Martin. He said, “It is important. Performance-wise, it will not be important, because the car will be very different next year for everyone.”
He also said, “But in terms of comfort, seat, steering wheel, the buttons, things that I would love to maybe change and get into my tailor-made everything, it will be nice to have a day in the car. So I’m looking forward.”
Aston Martin has also recently acquired another big name for their team–Felipe Drugovich. The 2022 F2 Champion will be joining the British team as a part of their Driver Development programme. With several new additions to the Aston Martin crew, it seems that they are headed towards achieving the goal of becoming the top team of the middle order in the upcoming 2023 season.
