“It’s a massive gap…so that’s pretty smooth sailing”: Lewis Hamilton convinced Max Verstappen will defend his world title
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen after the end of the race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
For seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the racer who is about to win the Formula 1 title this year is clear as a day, and it is none other than his own former Championship rival–Max Verstappen. The 37-year-old Briton has been in this game longer than most of the racers on the current grid, and his experience tells him that the Red Bull racer would win the title this time around with ease, thanks to the wide gap that Verstappen has established between Charles Leclerc and himself.
At the very beginning of this year, Leclerc was planted as a Championship hope by the Scuderia Ferrari due to his prowess in their almost-flawless F1-75 car. Charles Leclerc did perform amazingly in the first two races in Bahrain and Australia, but that was followed by a series of missed opportunities due to Charles’ own faults, Ferrari’s strategy mistakes, reliability issues with their car, etc., and thus Leclerc lost his lead in the Championship table and Max Verstappen took over.
As of now, Max Verstappen is at 233 Championship points, a good 63 points ahead of Charles Leclerc who has got 170 points to his name.

Lewis Hamilton reckons the Championship battle is almost won for Max Verstappen
Being one of the only two racers to have achieved the staggering feat of winning seven F1 Championships till date, Lewis Hamilton knows a Formula 1 World Champion when he sees one. And right now, the Mercedes racer is convinced that this year’s title is going to Max Verstappen without a doubt because of the Red Bull driver’s huge lead over Charles Leclerc.
Speaking of how unfortunate Leclerc has been with the issues that he has faced with his Ferrari car, Lewis Hamilton said, “I’m gutted for Charles, who’s been doing a great job, as has Carlos. It’s not easy though, having that pace and that performance and maintaining it. It’s a tough job and I feel for the whole team because I know what that can feel like. But they’re a great team, and they’ll continue to keep their heads down.”
Then Lewis Hamilton put forward his predictions for this year’s Championship battle saying, “[It’s a] massive gap, obviously pretty huge, so that’s pretty smooth sailing in that space generally. But a lot still can go wrong up ahead so I would just advise them just to continue to push.”
