“It’s actually quite exciting,” Andrew Shovlin believes Mercedes is on the right path to challenge Red Bull and Ferrari

Mercedes 2022 Formula One season did not get off to the kind of start that the team was hoping for, and this season they have proved well below par in terms of the development of a car worthy of challenging the high-flying Red Bull and Ferrari F1 team.
However, despite the performance gap that has been on the show for all the F1 enthusiasts, Mercedes Director of Trackside Engineering, Andrew Shovlin has stated that the Brackley-based outfit is now on the right path.
Mercedes has ridden on their luck well this season as early in the campaign Mercedes was always there to pick up the pieces whenever Red Bull and Ferrari faulted.
Moreover, the Silver Arrows are on a decent run of form and have shown themselves well against the top two teams before the start of the ongoing summer break.
As the season has progressed, the F1 teams have noticed the difference in the car qualities and it is now getting narrower with the passing of every Grand Prix, the German stable sees a lot of hope because of this reason.
Mercedes is entering a different phase in its development potential
Andrew Shovlin believes that Mercedes after 13 rounds, is now entering a phase that is going to bring a lot of joy for the reigning Constructors Champions.
The Brit has indicated that early on, the team was busy finding solutions to the problems that they were facing but after entering a new phase the mood in the camp is boisterous.
Shovlin while stressing over Mercedes broadening base said, “That’s actually quite exciting, there’s a lot of happy people at the factory now that we’re sort of getting into a phase that’s starting to make sense to us… We need to score points, we need to fight in the championships, but the big one is we’ve got to learn to know what we want to do for next year and to try and get the car back to the front.”
Moreover, Red Bull is out of the question for Mercedes this season but they still can give Ferrari a run for their money as the two teams are not that far apart in the Constructors Championship.
The Italian team is only 30 points ahead of the Silver Arrows and considering the reliability issues that they have faced, Mercedes can really become a big nuisance for the Maranello-based F1 team.
