Jos Verstappen boasts of his three-time F1 World Champion son Max claiming that they ‘recognized his talent during his go-kart days’

It is not just the sponsorships, support and brilliance that help a racer to graduate into the king class of motorsports–he has to be superbly resilient too. In Formula One, everything is based on results. If a driver does not perform well, he can be dropped by his team in the blink of an eye, but if he does excel, he will be taken up by the biggest teams in the sport–like Red Bull. And that is exactly what happened in the case of a seventeen-year old Max Verstappen who was spotted for his talent by Red Bull at a very early age.
Fast forward to the present day, at twenty five years of age, Max Verstappen has three back-to-back F1 titles to his name. And added to that, he has garnered massive fame due to his almost undefeated winning streak, having won 13 out of the 16 races held so far in the 2023 F1 season. He is now one of the only six F1 drivers to have won their titles on a Saturday, thanks to his second-place finish at the Qatar Sprint Race. And he is also only the fifth racer to win three consecutive World titles in F1.
Owing to his son’s blinding success in the highest echelon of motorsports, former racer Jos Verstappen gave his take on Max’s records. The Dutchman, who is a contemporary of the F1 legend Michael Schumacher, claimed that Max Verstappen’s talent was distinguishable right from his karting days. Jos said, “I knew it (his talent) a long time when he was in go-kart. I think we made the right decision in the beginning of his career and now it’s up to him what he does. I’m just very happy with how he does it and how strong he is, and the way he works for that.“

It is no news that Max Verstappen is currently dating Brazilian F1 legend Nelson Piquet Sr’s daughter Kelly. As the Red Bull driver had his third Championship title conferred upon him on a Saturday, Kelly shared an Instagram story update saying that the last time an F1 racer had achieved this feat was when her father attained two of his three titles on two Saturdays too.
Sharing the news of this surprising coincidence, Kelly Piquet claimed that she was proud of her father and her partner for the enormous achievements they have collected in Formula One during their respective careers. Max has now joined Nelson Piquet’s echelon as he is also a three-time World Champion. Kelly was present at the Lusail circuit where she hugged Max Verstappen as he made his way to his team after winning a podium place in the Sprint Race.
But the challenge is becoming all the more difficult for Max Verstappen with every passing year. Now that he has three World Championships in his collection, the fans will be expecting nothing but true excellence from him in the upcoming seasons, but his rivals are not going to stay silent too. Mercedes and Ferrari, along with McLaren, have all vowed to develop their challengers for the next year with an attempt to aim for the World Championship in 2024.
