“Just close your ears, don’t listen to it”: When Max Verstappen did not stop Dutch crowd from booing Lewis Hamilton

It is no news that both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had one of the closest and fiercest competitions in the history of F1 when the two battled it out for the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship title. As the title race dragged out till the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where Max Verstappen finally had the last laugh as he was crowned the World Champion, Lewis’ fans believe the Briton was robbed of his chance to make a World Record by winning the eighth title, and thus, they are not happy with the sight of Max Verstappen at Silverstone.
When Max Verstappen took to the stage to answer some questions asked by an F1 presenter after the Silverstone Qualifiers were over, his voice got drowned by loud boos from the audience who clearly did not approve of him as he is the reigning World Champion and not their own Lewis Hamilton. And this incident has reminded the Twitterati of the time when Max Verstappen’s devoted Dutch fans booed Lewis Hamilton in the same way when the Briton visited Zaandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen learns what goes, comes right back in Silverstone
F1 Twitter points out to the time when Max Verstappen’s fans booed at Lewis Hamilton the same way as Hamilton’s fans did at him last night in Silverstone. While Max was giving his take on the Qualifying Session that saw him finish in P2 as Carlos Sainz took away the pole position, frenzied Formula 1 fans who still believe Max should not have won the Championship title last year, went ahead and booed at him to show that they did not approve of him.
This incident has been criticized by the Twitterati as no racer deserves to be undermined by the crowd like this. But they could not help bringing up the time back in 2021 when Max Verstappen’s fans had booed at Lewis Hamilton and the Dutchman did nothing about that. In fact, Max Verstappen had said, “I guess…Just close your ears, and don’t listen to it.”
While Verstappen gave a downright flippant reply to the question of whether his countrymen were right to boo at Lewis Hamilton like that, he is now in the same position as the Mercedes racer and this time, it is the British crowd that’s booing at him. This has clearly shown the Dutch racer that what goes, comes right back.
