Charles Leclerc certainly had a very frustrating race in Singapore. Sergio Perez was ahead of him after the first corner even though he started in pole position, due to a poor start. After that, he never particularly got into a position to recover the position, and eventually, Perez won the race.

Leclerc would have won the race if he had been able to stay within 5 seconds of the Mexican driver – as he received a 5-second post-race penalty. But the Monegasque fell behind, probably due to killing his tyres while chasing Perez. The Ferrari F1-75 has also been rather heavier on tyres when compared to the RB-18.

There’s one positive to take from the race: At the least, Monza and Singapore have been rather spotless on the strategic front from Ferrari. If they want to challenge for the title again next year, they will definitely need that. In fact, they have already likely shifted their attention to 2023. Leclerc wants them to use the rest of the year as practice.

As per Motorsport.com, Charles Leclerc was obviously frustrated with the P2 finish, but he was glad that the team had got its execution correct. He said: “I want to use these last few races for us to get better on the execution of the race, especially, and I feel like it’s a step forward this weekend.”

The Monegasque driver added: “We need to do other steps forward. It’s a good step in the right direction, and on that I’m happy, but of course frustrated with the second place.”

His teammate Carlos Sainz also agreed: “It’s good news to see that the race was well executed on both sides. There are still things I’m convinced that we need to keep improving and do better, but the team is taking massive steps forward.

The Spaniard felt that the key for the team was just in the execution, as every other ingredient was there: “It’s clear that the car is there, the drivers, we’re there. We just need to keep improving the execution and whenever we have the opportunities, nail them.”

The championship dream for Ferrari is over this season, but as Mattia Binotto has said before, their aim is to win a championship by 2026. Even that won’t come easy, and they will need to be on top of their game to get themselves in such a situation.
