Lando Norris had been regarded as one of the best drivers on the current F1 grid. Although, the British driver’s car hasn’t been able to live up to his and everyone else’s expectations. While he never had a consistently competitive car, the 2023 McLaren has been pretty much a massive disappointment in terms of performance. He is tied in a bit of a knot as the McLaren isn’t fast but not extremely slow either.
When Daniel Ricciardo exited the team following a poor season, everyone assumed that it was the Honey Badger who couldn’t make it work. With just five races into the 2023 season, it seems to be pretty clear who was at fault for McLaren’s poor results. The Miami GP was yet again a horror show for McLaren and Lando Norris. The weekend itself didn’t start off well as both the cars were knocked out in Q1 itself.
Sunday’s race was even more painful for the Papaya squad. Oscar Piastri finished a lap down in P19 while Lando Norris had a slightly better finishing position (17th). Right now, it feels like the McLaren is a bit unpredictable. It showcases its performance level based on the track it races on. For some races, McLaren has shown great pace. However, it hasn’t been the same in the rest of the rounds this season.

Lando Norris reflects on a poor Miami GP weekend

In an interview, here is what Lando said about racing with back markers. “You’re just trying to hang in, see if anything happens. It’s unlikely that many things will but you never know so it’s worth staying out just in case. No point in giving up,” said Norris. “I was trying some different things with lines and trying to understand the car a little bit more. Nothing more than that,” he continued.
Max Verstappen on the other hand emerged victorious at the 2023 F1 Miami Grand Prix. Meanwhile. Lando Norris further went on to suggest that the car’s performance was very deceptive. He said that there were some factors that were affecting the car’s performance. The Miami GP was a track where everyone had removed their sandbags and went on to fight. McLaren unfortunately had no answer for other teams glorious performances.
