The 20 drivers on the Formula 1 grid usually share a great bond with each other and are friends when they are taking a break from the immense competition that fans normally see in the highest pinnacle of motorsports. Even though some on-track incidents do cause some problems to their friendships, most of the racers are generally friends after all. However, things might be a bit sour between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, as evident from the former’s latest interview in Abu Dhabi.
While speaking to Norris, the interviewer took him back to Helmut Marko’s comment where he called the two drivers ‘good friends’. However, the reporter exaggerated the question and further called both the drivers “BFFs”, to which Norris visibly snapped.
To the fans’ surprise, Lando Norris asked the reporter to never call them BFFs again as they were far from being best friends forever. Norris still claimed that both of them respect each other and got along with one another but that was it from the Briton’s side as he did not consider Verstappen as his BFF.
He’s not my BFF. Don’t ever say that again. We respect each other and we get along
Norris told media including planetf1.com.
Although Norris did not rule out being friends with one another, but completely denied the claims of being best friends forever. The Briton exclaimed that they were just friends off-grid and not BFFs. He renounced the fact that both the drivers just had a lot of respect for one another on and off the grid.
Kind of friends a way, but that’s it. We just have a lot of respect for one another.
Lando Norris talked about competing with Red Bull in the coming season
The McLaren squad showed great improvement in terms of pace after the mid-season break. The team almost matched Red Bull in terms of pace on a few occasions. In addition to this, Lando Norris talked about the competing with Red Bull and how the team had an unmatched performance in this season.
The 24-year-old driver exclaimed that the team was not greatest in pace as displayed by the lap times. However, Norris did not hesitate to accept the fact that Red Bull was pretty good at handling degradation of tires during the race. The Briton did compliment Max Verstappen as being one of the best drivers on the grid.
Lando Norris has showcased optimism over matching Red Bull’s performance and claimed that they were almost getting close to the front-runners of the pack on the grid. McLaren in the coming seasons can seriously chase the dominant team for the first spot on the table if they string together great sessions in a season.
